The Union Cabinet has approved ₹1,800 crore for IVFRT 3.0, a high-tech overhaul of India’s immigration system. By deploying AI, ML, and IRIS scanning across 204 global missions, the government aims to slash e-visa processing times to 48 hours while strengthening national security through real-time data integration across 854 districts.
The Union Cabinet has sanctioned a ₹1,800 crore investment to modernize the Immigration, Visa, and Foreigners Registration and Tracking (IVFRT) system.
This investment marks the launch of version 3.0, transitioning the Home Ministry’s oversight from legacy software to an AI-driven security architecture.
This architecture is specifically designed to reduce the historical 30-day visa turnaround time to a standardized 48-hour window for e-visas.
Within this 48-hour window, the system will utilize advanced IRIS scanning and facial recognition to authenticate identities at 204 Indian missions worldwide.
These missions will be linked to a real-time intelligence ledger covering 854 districts, allowing the government to facilitate legitimate travelers while providing a "Sentry Scan" against security threats.
