Russia fired a massive wave of missiles and drones at Kyiv and other cities early on 1 December. Four people died and dozens were hurt. Now, rescuers are digging through the rubble in several districts.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Moscow used its Oreshnik hypersonic missile. It hit the city of Bila Tserkva. This weapon moves at ten times the speed of sound. It is nearly impossible to stop.
In the Shevchenko district, a missile hit a nine-storey apartment block. One person died there as fires broke out on the top floors.
Another strike hit a school. It blocked the entrance to an air raid shelter. People were trapped inside for hours while teams cleared the debris. They are safe now.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said 30 people are in hospital in the capital. Two of them are children.
Vladimir Putin had promised to strike back after a Friday attack in Starobilsk. He claimed Ukraine hit a student dormitory. But Kyiv says they only hit an elite military unit. They deny targeting the students.
The air force tracked 90 missiles and 600 drones overnight. These weapons hit more than 50 locations. And the damage spread far beyond the capital. Regions like Kharkiv, Odesa, and Sumy also came under fire.
So far, 83 people are reported injured since the start of the day. Emergency crews are still working at the scenes. Regional head Mykola Kalashnyk called it deliberate terror against peaceful people. He says the work continues.
